The species was first described in 1918 by Rolfe and is classified as Vulnerable (VU) on the IUCN Red List due to its limited range and threats to its habitat.

Description

Vanilla andamanica is a wild relative of Vanilla planifolia, the primary source of commercial vanilla. It is found only in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, where it grows in natural habitats. As an orchid species, it belongs to the Orchidaceae family, one of the largest families of flowering plants. The species is considered at risk due to its restricted distribution and environmental pressures. Conservation efforts are needed to protect this vulnerable orchid from further decline.
