Uvariastrum zenkeri is a tree or shrub in the Annonaceae family, native to Cameroon, Nigeria, and parts of Central Africa. It grows up to 20–30 m tall with a trunk diameter of 20–30 cm. Leaves are elliptic to obovate, 12–22 cm long, with a coriaceous texture. Flowers are cauliflorous or ramiflorous, with 9 perianth parts in 3 whorls. The species is threatened by habitat loss.
Description
Uvariastrum zenkeri is a member of the Annonaceae family, found in Cameroon, Congo, Gabon, Nigeria, and Zaïre. It is a tree or shrub reaching 20–30 m in height, with a trunk diameter of 20–30 cm. The plant lacks stilt roots or buttresses. Leaves are elliptic to obovate, 12–22 cm long and 3–5 cm wide, with a coriaceous texture. Young leaves are sparsely pubescent, becoming glabrous with age. Flowers are bisexual, with 9 perianth parts arranged in 3 whorls. Inflorescences are cauliflorous or ramiflorous, bearing 1–2 flowers per inflorescence. The species is threatened by habitat loss.
