Tulipa suaveolens, synonym Tulipa schrenkii, is a bulbous herbaceous perennial in the Liliaceae family. It is native to Bulgaria, Kazakhstan, Krym, the North Caucasus, and the Transcaucasus. This species is part of the section Tulipa and is considered the probable wild ancestor of the garden tulip.
Description
Tulipa suaveolens, also known as the van Thol tulip or Schrenck's tulip, is a perennial plant in the Liliaceae family. It is distributed across several regions in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. The species was first described in 1794 by Roth. It is closely related to cultivated tulips and is thought to be their wild progenitor. The plant is part of the genus Tulipa and belongs to section Tulipa within the family Liliaceae.
