Tulipa kolpakowskiana Regel
Tulipa kolpakowskiana, known as Kolpakowsky's tulip, is a species native to Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Xinjiang in China. It is a member of the Liliaceae family and was first described in 1877 by Regel. The plant is noted for its petals with a floral iridescence visible to bumblebees. It has received the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.
Description
Tulipa kolpakowskiana is a tulip species with a natural distribution across parts of Central Asia and western China. It grows to a height of 0.1 to 0.5 metres and spreads up to 0.1 metres. The species is distinguished by its iridescent petals, which play a role in pollination by attracting bumblebees. Its horticultural value has been recognized by the Royal Horticultural Society through the Award of Garden Merit.
