Culcita macrocarpa, commonly known as the woolly tree fern, is a species in the family Culcitaceae. It is native to Macaronesia and parts of the Iberian Peninsula, and is the only species of the order Cyatheales found native to Europe. This fern was first described in 1836 by C. Presl.

Description

Culcita macrocarpa is a tree fern species found in regions such as the Açores, Madeira, Portugal Continental, and several islands including Corvo, Faial, Flores, Pico, Santa Maria, São Jorge, São Miguel, Terceira, Madeira, and parts of the Canary Islands, Azores, Portugal, Spain, and globally. It is a member of the Culcitaceae family and is the only representative of the Cyatheales order native to Europe. The species was first published in 1836 by C. Presl.
