Phlox nivalis, known as trailing phlox, is a flowering plant in the Polemoniaceae family. It is native to the southeastern United States, Texas, Michigan, and Utah. A subspecies, Phlox nivalis subsp. texensis, is federally listed as endangered in the U.S. and is endemic to three Texas counties. Previously thought extinct, it was rediscovered in 1972.

Description

Phlox nivalis is a member of the Polemoniaceae family and is commonly called trailing phlox. It is found in Alabama, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, and Virginia. The subspecies Phlox nivalis subsp. texensis, known as Texas trailing phlox, is rare and confined to Texas. It was once considered extinct but was rediscovered in 1972 and is now classified as an endangered species.
