Tragopogon aureus is a perennial plant in the Asteraceae family, native to Turkey. It was first described in 1875 by Boiss. The plant grows to 10-30 cm in height, with unbranched stems and lanceolate leaves, the upper ones often ovate. It flowers from June to September, with golden yellow flowers that may turn bluish when dry.

Description

Tragopogon aureus is a sparsely floccose to glabrous perennial herb, reaching 10-30 cm in height. The stems are unbranched, and the leaves are lanceolate, with upper leaves often ovate. The peduncles are not thickened below the capitula. The involucre is floccose at the base, and the phyllaries are approximately 8, lanceolate, and sparsely and minutely black- and white-puberulent. The phyllaries are shorter than the flowers and measure 2-3 cm in the flowering capitulum. The flowers are golden yellow and often turn bluish when dry. Achenes are unknown. The species is native to Turkey and was first described in 1975.
