Ticodendron incognitum is the sole species in the genus Ticodendron and the only member of the family Ticodendraceae. It is native to several regions in Middle America, including Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico Gulf, Mexico Southeast, Mexico Southwest, Nicaragua, and Panama. The species was first described in 1989 by Gómez-Laur and L.D. Gómez. It is phylogenetically related to the Betulaceae family.
