Houstonia serpyllifolia, known as thymeleaf bluet, is a plant species in the Rubiaceae family. It is native to the eastern United States, particularly the central and southern Appalachian Mountains. The species is found in Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia, western Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Kentucky, Tennessee, Ohio, and northeastern Georgia.
Description
Houstonia serpyllifolia, also referred to as creeping bluet, mountain bluet, or Michaux's bluets, is a member of the coffee family (Rubiaceae). It is native to the eastern United States and is primarily distributed across the central and southern Appalachian region. The species occurs in Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia, western Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Kentucky, Tennessee, Ohio, and northeastern Georgia. It was first described in 1803 by the botanist Michaux.
