Tamarix dioica is a shrub or small tree in the Tamaricaceae family, native to saline habitats in western Asia. It is commonly known as tamarisk and was first described in 1821 by Roth, based on work by Roxb.

Description

Tamarix dioica is a twiggy shrub or small tree found in saline environments across western Asia. It is part of the Tamaricaceae family and belongs to the genus Tamarix. The plant is known by several local names, including ghaz and khagal in Pakistan, and lal jhau, urusia, ban jhau, nona-gach, urichiya in Bangladesh, as well as nona jhau in the Sunderbans. The species was first published in 1821 by Roth, citing the work of Roxb.
