Trillium vaseyi, commonly known as Sweet Trillium, is a spring-flowering perennial in the Melanthiaceae family. It is native to the southeastern United States, occurring in Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. The species was named in honor of George Richard Vasey, an American plant collector. It is also referred to as Vasey's Trillium, sweet wakerobin, or sweet beth.
Description
Trillium vaseyi is a member of the genus Trillium, characterized by its three-petaled flowers and three-leaf structure. It blooms in spring and is found exclusively in the southeastern U.S. The plant was first described in 1901 and is named after George Richard Vasey, distinguishing it from his father, Dr. George Vasey. It is known by several common names, including Vasey's Trillium, sweet wakerobin, and sweet beth. Its habitat is limited to the five states where it is naturally distributed.
