Stipagrostis sabulicola, known as the Namib dune bushman grass, is a perennial grass species native to the dunes of the Namib desert in Namibia. It can grow up to 200 cm in height and possesses a broad, shallow root system that enables it to collect water from fog and dew, in addition to rainfall.
Description
Stipagrostis sabulicola is a member of the Poaceae family and is found exclusively in the dunes of the Namib desert. This grass species is adapted to arid conditions and utilizes a wide, shallow root system to capture moisture from fog and dew. It was first described in 1963 and is part of the genus Stipagrostis.
