Senecio viscosus is a herbaceous annual plant in the Asteraceae family. Commonly known as Sticky Groundsel, it is native to regions including Newfoundland, Alberta, British Columbia, and parts of Europe such as France, Belgium, and the Netherlands. The species was first described in 1753 by Carl Linnaeus.
Description
Senecio viscosus is a member of the daisy or sunflower family, Asteraceae. It is commonly referred to as Sticky Groundsel, Sticky Ragwort, or Stinking Groundsel. The plant is distributed across several Canadian provinces, including Manitoba, Ontario, and Quebec, as well as in the United Kingdom, Russia, and Ireland. It was first published in 1753 under the authority of Linnaeus (L.). Some historical records, such as those by Alexander in 1979, reference the specimen 996.19 (LINN) but do not designate it as the type specimen.
