It is distributed across central and southern Chile, extending to the Magallanes Region and adjacent areas of Argentina, as well as the Juan Fernández Islands. This species grows in humid habitats, typically in areas that are not overly shaded or exposed to direct sunlight. Its range spans from sea level up to an elevation of 1800 meters above sea level.
