Sticherus lobatus, known as the spreading fan fern, is a small fern native to eastern and southern Australia. It is commonly found in open forest areas and on the edges of rainforests, forming colonies. This species is distinguished by its lobed segments and resembles S. flabellatus but with more pronounced lobation.

Description

Sticherus lobatus belongs to the family Gleicheniaceae and is part of the genus Sticherus. It is distributed across New South Wales, Norfolk Island, Queensland, Tasmania, and Victoria. First described in 1943 by Wakef., this fern is recognized for its spreading growth habit and is frequently encountered in its natural habitat. Its colonies contribute to the understory vegetation in various forested environments.
