Sticherus flabellatus, known as the shiny fan fern or umbrella fern, is a small fern native to eastern Australia and New Zealand. It is characterized by its shiny dark foliage and slightly toothed frond edges. The species is commonly found in moist gullies and near creeks, often in large numbers.

Description

Sticherus flabellatus belongs to the family Gleicheniaceae and is distributed across New Caledonia, New Guinea, New South Wales, New Zealand North, Northern Territory, Queensland, and Victoria. It was first described in 1942. This fern thrives in moist environments and is frequently observed in suitable habitats such as gullies and creek sides.
