Cypripedium yatabeanum, known as the spotted lady slipper, is a terrestrial orchid in the Orchidaceae family. Native to Alaska, the Russian Far East, and northern Japan, it is distinguished from Cypripedium guttatum by its yellow-green flowers and longer, narrower lip. It is a perennial herb reaching up to 0.61 m in height.
Description
Cypripedium yatabeanum is found in habitats such as mesic tundra, marsh borders, and beach dune lag. It was first described in 1899 by Makino. The species is distributed globally, with notable populations in Alaska, the Aleutian Islands, Japan, Kamchatka, and the Kuril Islands. Its flowers are yellow-green, and it is one of several slipper orchids in the genus Cypripedium.
