Spondias testudinis is a hermaphroditic tree species in the Anacardiaceae family, native to northern Brazil, Bolivia, and Peru. It is characterized by its 15–38 m height, grayish-brown fissured bark with vertical lenticel stripes, and a red, whitestriate inner bark. The leaves are (5) 7–13-jugate, 20–33 cm long, with asymmetrical, chartaceous to membranaceous leaflets and spiculate leaflet teeth. The species is distinguished from Spondias macrocarpa and Spondias mombin by specific morphological traits, including leaf trichome type, leaflet arrangement, and fruit characteristics.

Description

Spondias testudinis is a Neotropical tree species described in 1998. It has a trunk diameter of 35–65 cm and is distinguished by three types of trichomes: white, flexuous to uncinate or suberect hairs on leaves; capitate glandular hairs; and yellow, appressed to suberect, blunt glandular trichomes on inflorescences. The leaves are 7–13-jugate, with a 3.1–5.6 cm petiole and asymmetrical leaflet bases. The species differs from Spondias macrocarpa by spiculate leaflet teeth, 15–17 secondary vein pairs, shorter pedicels, and longer fruits. It is further distinguished from Spondias mombin by leaf trichome morphology, leaflet arrangement, and seedling eophyll characteristics.
