Mimetes splendidus is an evergreen shrub in the Proteaceae family, reaching up to 2.5 m in height. It is native to the Western Cape province of South Africa, specifically found on the south face of coastal mountains. The plant has broadly lance-shaped to oval, silvery-hairy leaves with toothed tips. Its inflorescences are cylinder-shaped, composed of multiple heads, each with 11–13 flowers. These are located in the leaf axils and are covered by orangy pink, hood-like leaves. It flowers from early May to September.
Description
Mimetes splendidus, commonly known as Splendid Pagoda, is a sparsely branching shrub in the Proteaceae family. It is characterized by its upright growth and silvery-hairy leaves that are broadly lance-shaped to oval, with three to four teeth at the tip. The plant produces cylinder-shaped inflorescences made up of multiple heads, each containing 11–13 flowers. These inflorescences are found in the axils of the uppermost leaves, which form a hood over the lower flowerhead and are flushed with orangy pink. Mimetes splendidus is endemic to the south-facing slopes of coastal mountains in the Western Cape province of South Africa and flowers during the winter months, from early May to September.
