Costus villosissimus is a plant species in the genus Costus, part of the Costaceae family. It is distributed across several countries, including Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico (Gulf, Northeast, and Southeast), Nicaragua, Panama, and Venezuela. Within Colombia, it is found in regions such as Santuario de Flora y Fauna Los Colorados, Parque Nacional Natural Macuira, Parque Nacional Natural Los Katíos, and Parque Nacional Natural Gorgona, as well as in specific departments like Antioquia, Boyacá, Caldas, and others. The species was first described in 1806 by the botanist Jacq.
