Sphagneticola calendulacea (L.) Pruski

Sphagneticola calendulacea is a perennial herb in the Asteraceae family, native to regions including China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Myanmar, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Taiwan, Bangladesh, and Vietnam. It is commonly found in China and Taiwan, where it thrives in drought, humidity, and nutrient-poor environments. The plant produces compounds such as wedelolactone and demethylwedelolactone. The species was published in 1996 by Pruski, who restricted the type material designated earlier by Grierson.
Description
Sphagneticola calendulacea (L.) Pruski is a member of the Asteraceae family. It is widely distributed across Asia, including Italy, the Andaman Islands, Assam, Bangladesh, Borneo, Cambodia, China Southeast, India, Japan, Java, Korea, the Laccadive Islands, Laos, Malaya, Manchuria, Myanmar, the Nansei-shoto, and Pakistan. The species was originally typified by Grierson, who cited material in the Herb. Hermann (BM) collection. Pruski later restricted the type to a single gathering, in accordance with Art. 9.15 of the nomenclatural code. The plant is known for its adaptability to harsh environmental conditions and for producing bioactive compounds such as wedelolactone and demethylwedelolactone.
