Zostera muelleri is a seagrass species native to the southern hemisphere, found in coastal regions of South Australia, Victoria, Tasmania, New Zealand, and parts of the Indian and Pacific Oceans. It is a marine angiosperm known as eelgrass or garweed. This species is fast-growing and plays an important ecological role as a habitat and food source for various marine and bird species.

Description

Zostera muelleri belongs to the Zosteraceae family and is distributed globally across temperate regions of the southern hemisphere. It is commonly found in coastal waters of Australia, New Zealand, and Papua New Guinea. This seagrass supports biodiversity by serving as a feeding and breeding ground for aquatic animals, including juvenile fish and shrimp, as well as wading birds. The species was first described in 1867 by Irmisch ex Asch.
