This species is native to a wide range of regions, including MU, BG, Albania, Algeria, Bulgaria, Cyprus, East Aegean Is., France, Germany, Greece, Iran, Italy, Kriti, Krym, Lebanon-Syria, Libya, Morocco, North Caucasus, Palestine, and Portugal. It is commonly referred to as southern shepherd's-needle in English. The species was first published by L. in 1753.
