Phytolacca bogotensis, known as Southern pokeweed, is a species in the Phytolaccaceae family. It was first described by Kunth in 1817 and is native to regions in South America, including Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, and Paraguay. It is also found in parts of the United States, such as Maryland, and in other areas like Boyacá, Cauca, Cesar, Cundinamarca, Huila, Nariño, Quindío, Risaralda, Santander, and Tolima in Colombia. The species is present in various parks and natural reserves, including Parque Nacional Natural Cocuy, Parque Nacional Natural Puracé, and Parque Nacional Natural Chingaza.

Description

Phytolacca bogotensis is a member of the Phytolaccaceae family and is commonly referred to as Southern pokeweed. This species was first published by Kunth in 1817. It is found in a wide range of locations, including parts of South America such as Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, and Paraguay. In Colombia, it is present in regions like Boyacá, Cauca, Cesar, Cundinamarca, Huila, Nariño, Quindío, Risaralda, Santander, and Tolima. It also occurs in several protected natural areas, including Parque Nacional Natural Cocuy, Parque Nacional Natural Puracé, and Parque Nacional Natural Chingaza. Additionally, it has been recorded in the United States, specifically in Maryland, and in other locations such as Bucaramanga, Tona, Maripí, Cerinza, Arcabuco, and the municipality of Iza.
