Description

The species is native to the central and eastern Caucasus and South Caucasus regions. It shares its native range with Heracleum mantegazzianum, a closely related species. Sosnowsky's hogweed has spread beyond its native range and is now a common weed in several European countries, including the Baltic States, Belarus, Poland, Russia, and Ukraine. It was first described in 1944 by Manden. The plant is found in the European part of Russia and other regions such as Denmark, Hungary, Romania, Turkey, Serbia, Finland, and the Baltic countries.
