Description
Sonchus wightianus is a perennial herb with simple, lanceolate to oblanceolate leaves that are pinnatisect or runcinate, measuring 4-15 cm in length and 1-6 cm in width. The flowering stems are erect, 8-30 cm tall, with sparse cauline leaves. Capitula are solitary or in groups, with involucres 5-8 mm in diameter. Phyllaries are 2- or 3-seriate, lanceolate to linear-oblong, with white tomentose or glandular hairs. The yellow ligulate florets measure 9-11 mm, with a sparsely hairy corolla. Achenes are stramineous, narrowly ellipsoid, and 3-3.5 mm long. The species is distributed across Fujian, Sichuan, Guangdong, Zhejiang, Guizhou, Hubei, Jiangsu, Hunan, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Uttar Pradesh, Taiwan, Jammu-Kashmir, Assam, Bhutan, Myanmar, Sikkim, Hong Kong, Maharashtra, and Pakistan.
