Cladium mariscoides (Muhl.) Torr., known as Smooth Saw-Grass, is a plant native to eastern North America. It is found in all U.S. states along the Gulf and Atlantic coasts except Louisiana, all Great Lakes states, and in Vermont, Kentucky, and Tennessee. It is also present in all Canadian provinces except Alberta, British Columbia, and Prince Edward Island. This species typically grows along the shores of wetlands, including coastal salt marshes.

Description

Cladium mariscoides is a member of the Cyperaceae family and is widely distributed across the Nearctic region. It is commonly found in wetland habitats, particularly in coastal salt marshes. The species was first described in 1836 and is known for its occurrence in a broad range of wetland environments. It is absent from only a few U.S. states and Canadian provinces. Its natural range includes areas from Labrador to Florida and as far west as Saskatchewan and Illinois.
