Orchis punctulata, the Small-dotted Orchis, is an orchid species native to southeastern Europe, Crimea, western Asia, the North Caucasus, and Transcaucasia. It was first described in 1835 and belongs to the Orchidaceae family.
Description
Orchis punctulata has ellipsoid tubers and an erect stem measuring 25 to 60 cm in height, with 4 to 7 leaves in the lower half and sheaths above. The leaves are oblong, and the inflorescence is a cylindrical, many-flowered spike. The bracts are ovate and shorter than the ovary. The perianth-segments form a galea, with the outer segments pink and oblong-ovate, and the inner segments linear-oblong and yellowish-green. The labellum is longer than wide, yellowish-green, often with purple spots, and 3-lobed. The lateral lobes are oblong and truncate, while the middle lobe is narrowed at the base and widened at the apex, with a 2-lobed structure featuring a short apiculum between the lobules. The spur is broadly cylindrical and directed downwards.
