Paronychia argentea is a species in the Caryophyllaceae family, commonly known as silver nailroot or Algerian tea. It is an herbaceous plant found in sandy areas, roadsides, abandoned fields, and dry habitats. The species was first published in 1779 by Lam.

Description

Paronychia argentea is native to regions including Belgium, Algeria, France, Italy, Morocco, and others in the Mediterranean and surrounding areas. It is a member of the Caryophyllaceae family and belongs to the genus Paronychia. The plant is known to thrive in dry and disturbed environments. Regarding nomenclatural history, a proposed lectotype by Chaudhri was found to be ineffective due to the collections being from separate gatherings. The plant is sometimes referred to as Algerian tea in common usage.
