Deparia acrostichoides (Sw.) M.Kato, known as Silver False Spleenwort, is a perennial fern species in the family Athyriaceae. It is native to the eastern United States and Canada, including New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, Vermont, and other regions. It also occurs in eastern Asia, including China, Russia, Japan, and Korea. The plant is characterized by silver-colored indusia on the underside of its leaves when the sori are nearly ripe.
Description
Deparia acrostichoides is a member of the genus Deparia and is commonly referred to as Silver False Spleenwort. It is found in a wide range across the eastern United States and Canada, from New Brunswick to Georgia and as far west as Louisiana. The species is also present in parts of eastern Asia. The silver coloration of the indusia on the underside of the leaves is a distinguishing feature when the sori are near maturity. This fern was first described in 1980.
