Agoseris monticola, known as Sierra Nevada agoseris, is a herbaceous flowering plant in the Asteraceae family. It is native to the western United States, including California, Nevada, Washington, Oregon, and Ontario. This species is commonly found in mountainous regions such as the Cascade Range and Sierra Nevada. It was first described in 1899 by Greene.
Description
Agoseris monticola is characterized by its rosette leaves, which are obovate, 2.0-10.0 cm long, and may be entire, pinnatifid, or dentate. The plant has a peduncle 2.0-25.0 cm long and produces heads with 10-40 yellow flowers. The involucre is campanulate or cylindric-campanulate, and the corolla is ligulate. Achenes are fusiform, 6.0-9.0 mm long, with a beak 1.0-3.0 mm long. The pappus is 8.0-11.0 mm long. This species is adapted to alpine and subalpine environments.
