Description
Sesamum marlothii belongs to the Pedaliaceae family and is closely related to the genus Sesamum, which includes the economically important sesame. This species is endemic to Namibia and was formally described in 1888. It is characterized by its three-parted lower leaves, shorter stalks supporting the flowers and fruit, and capsules that are approximately half the size of those in S. schinzianum. Additionally, the seeds of S. marlothii are somewhat larger than those of its close relative. These distinguishing features were noted during its initial description and continue to be key identifiers for the species.
