Sempervivum calcareum is a flowering plant in the Crassulaceae family, native to the southern Alps in Europe. It is an evergreen succulent perennial with a rosette of thick, water-storing leaves that are typically green with reddish-purple tips. The plant reproduces through asexual budding and monocarpic sexual reproduction.

Description

Sempervivum calcareum, described in 1849 by Jord., is a member of the Crassulaceae family and is native to France and Italy. It features a compact rosette of fleshy leaves, which are green with reddish-purple margins. The plant primarily reproduces through asexual budding, forming offsets, and also undergoes monocarpic sexual reproduction, where flowering results in the death of the parent plant. It is adapted to dry, rocky environments, typical of the southern Alpine regions where it is found.
