First described in 1753, it is also referred to as seacoast angelica or sea-watch and is sometimes called wild celery.

Angelica lucida is a member of the Apiaceae family and is commonly known as seabeach angelica. It is distributed across Labrador, Newfoundland, British Columbia, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Northwest Territories, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, Yukon, Saint Pierre and Miquelon, as well as parts of the United States and Russia. The species was first published in 1753. It is also known by the common names seacoast angelica and sea-watch, and is one of several species in the celery family referred to as wild celery.
