It faces significant threats from wildfires and habitat degradation caused by rice cultivation. The IUCN classifies it as critically endangered, with an estimated 203-340 mature individuals remaining.

Description

Endemic to Madagascar, Schizolaena tampoketsana is a member of the Sarcolaenaceae family and is restricted to the savanna regions around Ankazobe. Its population is severely limited, with only 203-340 mature individuals estimated to exist. The species is at high risk due to habitat loss driven by agricultural expansion, particularly rice farming, as well as frequent wildfires.
