Sarracenia alabamensis, known as the cane-brake pitcher plant, is a carnivorous species in the Sarraceniaceae family. It is native to the New World and is divided into two subspecies: S. alabamensis subsp. alabamensis, found only in central Alabama, and S. alabamensis subsp. wherryi, found in southwestern Alabama, eastern Mississippi, and Florida. It has also been classified as two subspecies of S. rubra in some treatments.
Description
Sarracenia alabamensis is a carnivorous plant belonging to the genus Sarracenia and the family Sarraceniaceae. It is native to the New World. The subspecies S. alabamensis subsp. alabamensis is restricted to central Alabama, while S. alabamensis subsp. wherryi occurs in southwestern Alabama, eastern Mississippi, and Florida. Both subspecies are found within the United States. The plant is sometimes considered as two subspecies of S. rubra.
