Sarcococca orientalis is a species in the Buxaceae family, native to Jiangxi province in southeast China. It is an evergreen shrub with ovate-lanceolate leaves that are cuneate at the base and up to 9 cm long. The species is distinguished by its longer leaves compared to S. confusa and broader leaves than S. hookeriana. It produces pink-tinged white, sweetly scented flowers in midwinter and small black drupes.

Description

Sarcococca orientalis thrives in partially shaded environments and is part of the genus Sarcococca. Its flowers are inconspicuous but emit a noticeable fragrance during mild winter weather. The plant is one of several species in the genus, and it was formally described in 1979 by C.Y. Wu.
