Saponaria lutea L. belongs to the Caryophyllaceae, a family commonly known as carnation or carnation family. This species is found in the regions of France, Spain, and Switzerland. The genus Saponaria includes plants often referred to as soapworts due to the saponins present in their tissues. Saponaria lutea was formally published in 1762 by Carl Linnaeus, the father of modern taxonomy.
