Sambucus sieboldiana, known as Japanese red elder, is a deciduous shrub native to East Asia, including Japan, Korea, the Kuril Islands, the Nansei-shoto, and Sakhalin. It is commonly found in thickets and forest edges at low elevations. The species was first described in 1901 and belongs to the genus Sambucus in the family Viburnaceae.
