Rough chervil
Chaerophyllum temulum L.

Chaerophyllum temulum L., a species in the Apiaceae family, was first published in 1753. It is known as Rough chervil in English. The species is widely distributed across regions including British Columbia, Quebec, the 48 contiguous United States, Europe, and parts of North Africa and Central Asia. A taxonomic discussion in the Linnaean Plant Names literature notes that an illegitimate replacement name was proposed for C. temulum. A proposal by Jarvis in 1992 sought to conserve the type of the genus, but the General Committee later determined the action was unnecessary.
Description
Chaerophyllum temulum L. belongs to the Apiaceae family and is native to a wide range of regions, including parts of North America, Europe, and Central Asia. The species has been the subject of taxonomic review, particularly regarding the validity of its name. An illegitimate replacement name was proposed for C. temulum, and a 1992 proposal by Jarvis aimed to conserve the species as the type for the genus. However, the proposal was ultimately deemed unnecessary by the General Committee, as documented in a review by Barrie.
