Rhus potaninii, also known as Chinese varnish tree or Potanin's sumac, is a species in the Anacardiaceae family. It is native to central and southern China, growing on hills and mountains at elevations between 900 and 2,500 m. This deciduous tree can reach up to 12 m in height and is named after its collector, Grigory Potanin. It is cultivated for its rounded crown and red autumn foliage.
