Salicornia rubra, known as red glasswort, is a flowering plant in the Chenopodiaceae family. It is native to colder or higher regions of North America, including Yukon, Nunavut, British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Ontario in Canada, as well as the western and north-central United States. It has been introduced to Quebec and Michigan, and is extinct in Illinois. This halophyte is among the most salt-tolerant plants in North America.

Description

Salicornia rubra, described by A. Nelson in 1899, is a species of the Chenopodiaceae family. Its distribution spans across several Canadian provinces and U.S. states, including Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Quebec, Saskatchewan, Yukon, and regions such as Colorado, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, and Nebraska. The plant is adapted to saline environments and is considered one of the most salt-tolerant species in North America. It is native to colder or higher elevations and has been introduced to parts of eastern Canada and the U.S.
