Celtis mildbraedii is a species of forest tree in the Cannabaceae family. It was originally classified under Ulmaceae but is now recognized in Cannabaceae. The species is distributed across Tropical Africa, including countries such as Angola, Benin, Cameroon, and Sudan, as well as in Southern Africa, particularly in South Africa, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe. Common names include Red-fruited Stinkwood, Natal White Stinkwood, and Natal Elm. It is more prevalent in Tropical Africa than in Southern Africa.

Description

Celtis mildbraedii was first described by Engler in 1909 based on syntypes collected by G. W. J. Mildbraed. Polhill later selected one of these syntypes as the lectotype, but due to ambiguity in the selection, a second lectotypification step was conducted, designating the specimen with barcode 10 0057907 in the B herbarium as the official lectotype. This specimen was chosen for having more fruits. The remaining syntypes could not be located in the consulted herbaria. Taxonomically, the species is accepted and recognized in recent studies.
