Ammannia senegalensis, known as Red Ammannia, is a flowering plant in the Lythraceae family. It is native to western Senegal and is commonly found as a weed in rice paddies.

Description

Ammannia senegalensis (Lam.), from the Lythraceae family, is a flowering plant native to western Senegal. It is widely distributed across the Afrotropical region and parts of North Africa and the Middle East, including Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina, Cape Verde, the Caprivi Strip, the Central African Republic, Chad, Egypt, Ethiopia, Gambia, Greece, Ivory Coast, Kenya, KwaZulu-Natal, Libya, and Malawi. First described in 1792, this species is often found growing as a weed in rice paddies. It is known by the common name Red Ammannia in English and other languages.
