Nothofagus alpina, known as rauli, is a deciduous tree in the Nothofagaceae family. It is native to Chile and Argentina, growing in the Andes from 35 to 42° south latitude. The tree can reach up to 50 m in height and more than 2 m in diameter. It is adapted to cold climates and strong winds, with a straight trunk and grey bark.

Description

Nothofagus alpina (Poepp. & Endl.) Oerst. is a species of the Nothofagaceae family. It is a deciduous tree that grows in the Andes of Chile and Argentina. This species is found between 35 and 42° south latitude. It is a tall tree, capable of reaching 50 m in height and over 2 m in trunk diameter. The tree is characterized by its straight, cylindrical trunk and grey bark. It is well adapted to low temperatures and strong winds. Nothofagus alpina was first described in 1871 and is also known as rauli in English and other languages.
