Yucca lacandonica is a species in the genus Yucca, family Asparagaceae, commonly known as Quim. It is native to southern Mexico and Belize, occurring in the states of Chiapas, Veracruz, Tabasco, Quintana Roo, Campeche, and Yucatán. This species is unique within the Yucca genus as the only epiphytic member, though it can also grow terrestrially. It was first described in 1962 by Gómez Pompa and J. Valdés.

Description

Yucca lacandonica is distinguished by its ability to grow both epiphytically and terrestrially, a trait not found in other members of the Yucca genus. It is distributed across the Gulf, Southeast, and Southwest regions of Mexico, as well as in Belize. The species is part of the Asparagaceae family, a taxonomic group that includes many economically and ecologically significant plants. Its scientific name was formally published in 1962.
