Cypripedium reginae, known as the Queen Lady's Slipper, is a member of the Orchidaceae family. It is native to regions in North America and parts of Europe. This orchid is rare and has disappeared from much of its former range due to habitat loss. It is the state flower of Minnesota.

Description

Cypripedium reginae is a species of lady's-slipper orchid found in areas such as Newfoundland, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, Saskatchewan, Saint Pierre and Miquelon, and parts of the United States and Europe. It was first described in 1788 by Walter. The plant is known for its distinctive pink flowers and is considered rare. Its decline is primarily due to habitat destruction. It holds the status of state flower in Minnesota.
