It is distributed across various regions in Europe and Northern Africa, such as Albania, Algeria, the Baleares, Corse, France, Greece, Italy, Sardegna, Sicilia, Spain, and Yugoslavia. The species was first described in 1753 and is part of the genus Echinophora. It is also known in English as Prickly Parsnip.
