Portulaca kermesina is a member of the Portulacaceae family and is distributed across several African countries including Botswana, Cape Provinces, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Free State, Kenya, KwaZulu-Natal, Mozambique, Namibia, Northern Provinces, Rwanda, Somalia, Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zaïre, and Zimbabwe, as well as Saudi Arabia. This species was first published in 1909 by N.E.Br.
