Portulaca elatior is a species in the Portulacaceae family, native to various regions in South and Central America, as well as the Caribbean. It was first described in 1872 by Mart. ex Rohrb.

Portulaca elatior belongs to the genus Portulaca and is part of the Portulacaceae family, commonly known as the purslane family. This species is distributed across several countries and regions, including Brazil (Northeast, North, Southeast, and West-Central), Bolivia, Colombia, Venezuela, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, the Netherlands Antilles, the Venezuelan Antilles, and Aruba. It is also found in specific locations such as BR, Piedecuesta, Boyacá, Cauca, and Santander in Colombia, as well as Vichada. The species was first published in 1872 by Mart. ex Rohrb.
